k studio reveals completion of casa cook hotel’s interlocking villas in chania, greece
greek architecture firm k-studio and berlin-based design studio lambs and lions present the newly completed ‘casa cook chania’ along the cretan coast of greece. situated atop a sloping hillside, the modernist mediterranean resort marks the third manifestation of the casa cook resort brand in greece, this time comprising 106 single-story villas expressed as a collection of rhythmically interlocking terraces that gradually descend toward the sea. to generate this amount of single-story spaces along a sloping site, the team develops a ‘village’ layout with an emphasis on exterior zones that combines larger, open gathering points with smaller, quieter moments — all with unique views. the newly completed and photographed project follows the team’s artfully rendered images, revealed last summer.

developed and realized by k-studio and lambs and lions, the greek resort casa cook chania expresses its modernist influence at every moment. from the entrance building along the highest point of the site, a sweeping view over the project and out to the sea introduce a memorable first impression. the rooms, in clusters of smooth concrete and timber-clad boxes, balance and cantilever from floating walls of local stone as they descend the slope towards the beach. each villa stands as a cool, sensory retreat, carefully positioned to create double-aspect interiors that extend out onto private corner pool terraces with unique views to the sea and lush courtyard gardens.
k studio, together with lambs and lions, curate casa cook chania as a collections of transforming components. smooth concrete boxes gradually separate and transform into rougher, more brutalist structures that seem to have emerged from the sand. with this material condition, they are bolder and resilient to the salt and wind from which the structures higher up the site are protected. the orientation creates a the condition of a piazza, while a pathway down toward the beach offers a poetically choreographed interplay of light, shadow and texture.
