earth-embracing, dull and present day, the ‘spaceship’ house was structured by pac studio for a film industry customer’s family. situated in the dark lynn neighborhood of auckland, new zealand, the house has a creepy feel and a trace of a tragic tasteful. the customer’s numerous science fiction film credits impacted the modelers to structure a habitation with an extraordinary spatial look and experience.
the methodology brought by pac studio grasps both the slant of the site and the solicitation for a level, north-bound yard. the degree of the back yard proceeds through the liberal living volume and appropriates the top of the volume underneath as a casual outside deck. the outside space gives perspectives on auckland’s volcanic cones and is an augmentation of the living zone that boosts the usable open air space of the site.
the steel screens and metal cladding supplement the gentler cedar, consolidating into a dark surface that references a cutting edge, lunar palette. saturating the dim exterior, the section to the house is through a steel and polycarbonate walkway on the structure. once inside, a coated yard planted with thick local greenery is uncovered. this light filled void is at the core of the home and is the rotate for course into the rooms, restroom and the regular second relax that extends from the corridor to make an association through the yard to the road.
a dark strand board void slices through the center of the spaces, lodging the straight-run stair that climbs to the enormous living territory. the development from light to dim, and from constriction to extension was intended to make a point of affectation in the inside. the kitchen, toward the west, opens out to the rooftop deck. the inclining rooftop structures pursue the forms of the site, coming full circle in an overhanging north deck.
the house shapes itself around a private association with the two its planted scene and the urban condition. through the habitation, pac studio is in quest for another rural methodology that is both vigorous and others conscious.
