WJ design sets phoenix tree inside anshuka pastry shop in hangzhou, china
WJ design has completed the design of the interiors and the façade for anshuka, the first western-style pastry store to bring semi-cooked cheese products to china. located in hangzhou, the design references its location — nanshan road — where the leaves of the phoenix trees dance on both sides of the street.

with anshuka, WJ design started by transforming the façade, giving it a dark appearance that uses a golden frame which adds highlights, echoing the surrounding environment. oversized arch-shaped windows give a glimpse into the interiors featuring warmer tones through the use of white and wood. the arched glasses extend from the first floor all the way into the second one while reflecting the lush phoenix trees along the street.
throughout the project, WJ design used simple materials that echo anshuka’s ingredients. wood and metal materials are found around the interiors, adding attention to the product’s presentation. glass and skylights conduct natural light inside, to the point that when it’s sunny outside, people enjoy their sweets inside while a play of light and shadow become the soul of the space, bringing excitement to visitors.
a phoenix tree acts as the element which wraps the design also guiding the oversized staircase which leads to the second floor. the gentleness of light and shadow makes visitors forget the passage of time, while they lean on the sofa quietly, feeling maybe this comfort is just right.
